Leyio entwickelt seit längerem ein Device mit dem man drahtlos Dateien austausche kann. Filesharing ohne PC und ohne P2P, wie geht denn sowas?
Laut Quelle Gulli funktioniert das ganze wie folgt:

Neben einem Touchscreen mit Fingerabdruckscanner verfügt das Gerät über einen internen Speicher, welcher etwa 16 Gigabyte groß ist. Des Weiteren lassen sich USB-Sticks an das Gerät anschließen, ob weitere Anschlüsse unterstützt werden, ist bislang unklar. Das Herzstück des Geräts bildet jedoch die “Ultra-Wideband” Funktechnologie, welche eine Reichweite von etwa zehn Metern bietet, auf welchen mit 10 Megabyte pro Sekunde übertragen wird.

Nun kann man als User freilich sagen, dass mit diesem Gerät niemand mehr den Datentausch einheit gebieten kann. Den Austausch der Dateien in öffentlichen Parks, auf Schulhöfen oder in der Uni dürfte für viele Anwender ein Ausweg aus dem Abmahnwahn der hiesigen Contentindustrie sein. Das Gerät soll im August 2009 erscheinen.

Acht Jahre nach dem ersten Erscheinen des beliebten P2P-Clients ist Limewire als Alpha in Version 5 veröffentlicht worden. Besonders stechen aus dem beeindruckenden Featureset die neue Oberfläche und die “social sharing” genannten Funktionen hervor.

Neben Bittorrent gehört Limewire auch heute noch zu den beliebtesten Filesharingprogrammen. Die neue Version wartet mit einer komplett überarbeiteten Oberfläche auf, die intuitiv ist und aufgeräumt wirkt. Neu sind ebenfalls Komponenten “sozialer Netzwerke”, die es dem User erlauben, Dateien nur mit einem bestimmten Nutzerkreis z.B. Freunden zu tauschen.

Der lediglich 270kB kleine Bittorrentclient µTorrent ist in einer frühen Alphaversion veröffentlicht worden. Mit µTorrent 1.9 Alpha 13485 wird die neue uTP-Funktion (UDP torrenting) eingeführt und defaultmäßig aktiviert. Der kostenlose Bittorrentclient bringt im neuesten Build zudem Optimierungen bei den Latenzzeiten und eine Darstellung der Echtzeittransferratekontrolle mit. Gegen den Dauereinsatz der aktuellen Alpha spricht allerdings die für diesen Produktionsstatus typische Instabilität des Clients und mögliche Geschwindigkeitsverluste. Die Entwickler weisen darauf hin, dass die Downloadraten insbesondere in einem Swarm mit ausschließlich µTorrent 1.8.1 Clients sinken können.

uTorrent ist sehr ressourcenschonend und belastet die CPU nur in geringem Maße. Er verfügt jedoch über alle Eigenschaften, die ein guter BitTorrent-Client mitbringen sollte. uTorrent unterstützt mehrere gleichzeitige Downloads (Multiple simultaneous downloads) und die schnelle Aufnahme abgebrochener Downloads (Quick-resumes for interrupted transfers), zeitgesteuerte konfigurierbare Bandbreitennutzung (Configurable bandwidth scheduler), globale oder individuelle Limitierung der Geschwindigkeit per Torrent (Global and per-torrent speed limiting) sowie die von Azureus und Bittorrent bekannte Unterstützung trackerloser Torrents DHT (Trackerless support Mainline DHT). uTorrent 1.8.1 behebt einige längst überfällige Bugs in Version 1.8 des beliebten P2P-Programms. Unter anderem nutzt die Windowssoftware in der neuen Version ausschließlich die maximal zugelassene Anzahl verfügbarer halboffener Verbindungen. Besonders unter Windows XP hatte dies in der Vergangenheit für Probleme gesorgt. Oft war die Folge, dass nach einigen Stunden alle Tracker als offline angezeigt wurden. Nur ein Neustart des Programms half und unbekümmertes Downloaden über Nacht war so beispielsweise unmöglich.

Das CDS wurde gefixt und verhält sich nun wieder wie aus Version 1.7.7 gewohnt - der P2P-Client verbindet sich mit allen verfügbaren Quellen und sorgt so für einen gleichmässig hohen Download.

Was viele Windows Vista Nutzer freuen wird, ein Bug der uTorrent 1.8 unter Vista zum Absturz brachte wurde ebenfalls gefixt. Zudem wurde uTorrent so angepasst, dass das AntiVirenProgramm NOD32 uTorrent nicht mehr behindert. Trotzdem raten die Entwickler weiterhin von einem gleichzeitigen Betrieb von IMON mit der Filesharingsoftware ab.

Zattoo ist eine kostenlose Software, die den Empfang von über 50 Fernsehsendern auf dem PC ermöglicht. Der Dienst ist in Deutschland legal, die Betreibergesellschaft erwirbt die Rechte für die ausgestrahlten Kanäle. Für die Nutzung von Zattoo werden neben einem Breitbandanschluss ein aktueller Rechner mit einem Betriebssystem wie Windows XP/Vista, Mac OS X oder Linux benötigt.

Unter den frei empfangbaren Programmen sind die öffentlich-rechtlichen Programme ARD und ZDF, deren digitale Sparten-Kanäle und die dritten Programme. Zudem sind DMAX, DSF, Tele 5, Das Vierte, CNN, MTV, VIVA und Comedy Central verfügbar. Daneben sind auch viele größere Radiostationen zu empfangen. Die Senderliste kann personalisiert werden, so dass nur noch die für Sie interessanten TV- und Radiosender angezeigt werden. Der integrierte EPG liefert ausführliche Informationen zum TV-Programm der nächsten Woche und Detailinformationen der einzelnen Sendungen.

Die Software basiert auf dem P2P-Prinzip. Der Zattoo-Player erhält die Streamingdaten nicht zentral von einem Server sondern nutzt, ähnlich wie Bittorrent oder Emule, die Rechenleistung und Bandbreite der teilnehmenden Nutzer.

Die Technologie basiert auf der Forschungsarbeit von Sugih Jamin und Wenjie Wang an der Universität Michigan (USA) und wurde für das Streaming von Live-Inhalten optimiert. Zatoo nutzt den Videocodec H.264 und bietet einen kontinuierlichen Downstream von 500 Kbits/Sekunde bei einer Auflösung von 352×288 Pixel (Widescreen: 480×288).

Für die Nutzung des Programms ist eine kostenlose Registrierung notwendig. Bei jedem Start meldet sich der Zattoo-Player mit diesen Daten auf einem Zattoo-Server an und überträgt während der Nutzung der Software nutzungsbezogene Daten, die wahrscheinlich für die Optimierung von Werbeeinblendungen genutzt werden, die während einer 5-sekündigen Pause beim Senderwechsel angezeigt wird.

Fast unbemerkt von der Öffentlichkeit hat Bittorrent.com Bittorrent für Windows und Linux in der Version 5 zum Download bereitgestellt. Der Client für Mac OS X ist als Version 4.4.1 erhältlich.

Bisher sind für Bittorrent 5 vom Entwickler Bram Cohen leider noch keine Changelogs zur Verfügung gestellt worden. Wir reichen die Informationen aber umgehend nach.

BitComet ist ein alternativer P2P Filesharing-Client für das BitTorrent Netzwerk. Neben einigen Bugfixes unterstützt BitComet 0.73 mehrere gleichzeitige Downloads, Download-Queues, Fast-Resume und das Herunterladen von bestimmten Teilen eines Paketes. Das Programm verfügt über eine Chatfunktion und IP-Filter. Während des Setup-Prozesses wird die Installation der BitComet-Toolbar vorgeschlagen, die sich aber mit einem Mausklick abwählen lässt.
