BitFlu ist ein Bittorrent Client der komplett in der quelloffenen Programmiersprache Perl geschrieben wurde.Das genau macht BitFlu auch so einzigartig: es ist der erste, mir bekannte, Torrent Client, der in Perl programmiert wurde. Alle Quelltexte sind unter dem Download Link frei verfügbar. Die aktuelle Version ist 0.70, aber man kann BitFlu beruhigt als stabilen Client ausweisen. Die BitFlu Torrent Client Homepage findet ihr hier. BitFlu ist die erste Internet Anwendung, die Kademlia, PeerExchange, UDP-Tracker sowie DHT in Perl programmiert hat.

BitFlu beim Downloaden einer Linux Distribution

Laut dem Perl Hacker Adrian Ulrich unterstützt BitFlu folgende Features:

• uTorrent-PeerExchange
• UDP-(Auto)-Tracker
• Kademlia-DHT (Mainline/uTorrent kompatibel)
• Magnet-Links (ut_metadata)

In einem Interview mit Adrian hat er mir einige interessante Dinge erzählt, die ich Euch nicht vorenthalten möchte.

Chungo: Was kennzeichnet den Client gegenüber anderen Bittorrent Clients?

Adrian:

Mein damaliges Vorbild war mlDonkey, daher sind sich die
Clients in einigen Bereichen ziemlich ähnlich:
Beide laufen als Daemon und haben kein ‘klassisches’ GUI:
Die Userinteraktion geschiet über ein Webinterface oder Telnet.

Bitflu ist einer der wenigen Clients, die auch problemlos in einem
chroot laufen. Ausserdem hat Bitflu keine Probleme mit vollgelaufenen
Partitionen (mlDonkey zerschiesst sich dabei regelmässig die eigenen
Configfiles)

Aber das m.E. coolste feature von Bitflu ist, dass alles als
Plugin implementiert ist. So lassen sich sämtliche Teile
ganz einfach deaktivieren oder sogar austauschen:

So könnte man z.B. das Storage-Plugin durch eine Version
ersetzten, die sämtliche Daten in einem Memcached-’Raid’ ablegen
würde.. oh.. das bringt mich gerade auf eine dumme Idee

Chungo: Wie lange arbeitest du schon an BitFlu?

Adrian:

Mitte 2006 habe ich mit der ersten Version begonnen, ende 2007
gab es dann ein komplettes rewrite.

Chungo: Wie sind deine Download zahlen?

Adrian:

Keine Ahnung: Ich Tracke die Downloads nicht und Bitflu
sendet mit auch keine geheimen Statistiken.

Chungo: Woher nimmst Du Deine Inspiration zu Deinen Ideen für Bitflu?

Adrian:

Meist kommt mir beim Benutzen einfach mal eine neue Idee, oft
erhalte ich aber auch Input/Anfragen von den Usern.

BitFlu Telnet Plugin - Fernwartung für BitFlu

Laut Digital Audio News und BigChampagne waren 36.4% der etwa 1.66 Millionen untersuchten Rechner mit LimeWire ausgestattet.

“LimeWire ist weiterhin das iTunes des P2P, der Zuwachs neuer Installationen blieb in den letzten Monaten allerdings flach”, so Richard Menta, forschender Analytiker bei Digital Music News.

LimeWire’s Klage gegen die RIAA wurde indessen zurückgewiesen, die Firma hatte gegen Kartellbildung und unfaire Preisabsprachen seitens der Musikindustrie geklagt. Die RIAA wird nun weiter versuchen, die Hersteller in einem riesigen Prozess zu verurteilen.

Trotzdem bleibt Lw eine sehr beliebte Tauschbörse, um komfortabel und problemlos kostenlos herunterzuladen.

Die Analyse wurde möglich, indem PC Pitstop die erforderlichen Daten seiner Benutzer gesammelt hat. Das Programm inspiziert den eigenen Rechner auf Probleme, die seine Leistung beeinträchtigen können, und gibt Ratschläge zur Problemlösung.

Die englische Version des siebten und vermutlich letzten Bandes von J. K. Rowlings “Harry Potter” ist bei Bittorrent gesichtet worden. “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows”, dass erst dieses Wochenende in die Regale der Buchhändler kommt, ist bereits jetzt in “Fotoqualität” auf diversen BitTorrentseiten gesichtet worden.

Dabei handelt es sich nach Angaben von TechCrunch um Fotografien der einzelnen Seiten des letzten Harry Potter Bandes. Die Qualität ist entsprechend mager, die richtigen Fans wird dies aber wahrscheinlich nicht davon abhalten können, bereits jetzt einen Blick auf “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” zu riskieren.

Die deutsche Ausgabe von Harry Potter 7 ist ab dem 27. Oktober in den Buchhandlungen erhältlich.

Innerhalb weniger Tage und wenigen Release Candidates ist die finale Version des speichersparenden BitTorrent-Clients nun zum Download verfügbar. uTorrent 1.7.1 bringt einige Verbesserungen mit, unter anderem die Unterstützung für Announcements von Downloads mit einer Größe von mehr als 4GB und das schnellere Löschen beendeter Torrents.

BitComet 0.90 ist P2P-Client für das Filesharingnetz BitTorrent. Neben einigen kleineren Bugfixes und Verbesserungen an der grafischen Oberfläche wurden in BitComet 0.90 einige Anpassungen am Core vorgenommen, die eine hohe Prozessorlast vermeiden sollen. Daneben ist ein Bug behoben worden, der BitComet nicht auf Win98/ME Systemen laufen ließ. NAT Port Mapping und die Interaktion mit der Windows Firewall wurden in ein externes Programm verlegt um den Ressourcenverbrauch niedrig zu halten.

DC++ (Direct Connect Plus Plus) ist ein Peer-to-Peer-Programm für das Filesharing-Netzwerk Direct Connect. Der beliebte Client ist jetzt in der Version 0.699 erschienen.

Das Direct-Connect-Protokoll wurde von der Firma NeoModus Inc. entworfen. Außerdem entwickelte die Firma Server- und Client-Software, die dieses Protokoll verwenden, beide werden heutzutage allerdings nur noch von den wenigsten Benutzern verwendet. Bei DC handelt es sich um ein zentrales System. Es existiert ein Server, der sogenannte Hub, zu dem sich eine Reihe von Clients verbinden. Entweder verbindet sich der Benutzer, sollte er die Zieladresse wissen, direkt mit dem Hub, oder sucht sich einen aus einer der im Internet bereitstehenden diversen Hublisten aus. Neben den allgemeinen Hubs existieren auch noch solche, deren Benutzer sich vorrangig auf ein bestimmtes Themengebiet beschränken.
