eMule ist ein Tauschbörsen-Client für die eDonkey2000- und Kademlia-Netzwerke. eMule ist mittlerweile der gebräuchlichste Client für das eDonkey2000-Netzwerk. Jetzt wurde nun innerhalb weniger Tage nach der Version 0.47b eMule 0.47c mit vielen Neuerungen und Bugfixes veröffentlicht.

Die wichtigsten Neuerungen dieser Version sind neben der Protokoll Obfuskation (Verschleierung des Protokolls) Verbesserungen im Kad 2.0 Quellen/Schlüsselwort-Publishing, die mit der aktuellen Version behoben wurden.

Als kleinen Bonus für die lange Wartezeit, veröffentlichen die Coder zusätzlich zum Release von eMule 0.47c eine Shellerweiterung für WindowsXP. Die eMule Shellerweiterung ermöglicht es dem Windows Explorer, zusätzliche Information zu den .part.met und .part Dateien von eMule anzuzeigen. Diese Informationen werden in Tooltips, Statusleiste, Detailsektion und der Detailansicht vom Windows Explorer abgezeigt. Die Shell-Extension für eMule 0.47c muß separat heruntergeladen werden

BitComet ist ein alternativer P2P Filesharing-Client für das BitTorrent Netzwerk. Neben einigen Bugfixes unterstützt BitComet 0.72 mehrere gleichzeitige Downloads, Download-Queues, Fast-Resume und das Herunterladen von bestimmten Teilen eines Paketes. Das Programm verfügt über eine Chatfunktion und IP-Filter. Während des Setup-Prozesses wird die Installation der BitComet-Toolbar vorgeschlagen, die sich aber mit einem Mausklick abwählen lässt.

Für viele überraschend ist LimeWire ebenfalls von der amerikanischen Musikindustrie verklagt worden. Und das obwohl der Hersteller der an einer Filtersoftware arbeitet, die im LimeWire-Netzwerk urheberrechtlich geschützte Werke von vornherein vom Tausch ausschliessen soll.

Diese Entwicklung ging der Musikindustrie aber offensichtlich nicht so schnell voran wie gewünscht. Selbst Hinweise auf der Limewire-Seite an die Anwender über die rechtmäßige Nutzung von P2P-Software konnte nicht verhindern, dass einige Labels nun Limewire und die verantwortlichen Manager wegen Verletzung des Urheberrechts verklagt haben.

Wer weiterhin nicht auf auf das LimeWir-Netzwerk verzichten möchte, dem empfehlen wir FrostWire, einen OpenSource Alternative die aus LimeWire hervorgegangen ist.

Gemeinsam mit der Firma CacheLogic arbeitet Bittorrent Inc. an dem neuen Übertragungsprotokoll “Cache Discovery Protocol” (CDP) für BitTorrent. Es soll vermutlich so ähnlich wie das DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) für P2P-Netzwerke funktionieren. DHCP vergibt die IP-Adressen automatisch an neue Teilnehmer eines LAN (Lokal Area Networks) ohne großen Konfigurationsaufwand für den Benutzer. Besonders wenn nur wenige Seeds (Quellen) für eine Datei existieren soll diese neue Technologie BitTorrent Clients erlauben, automatisch bessere Seeds zu finden und somit den Download zu beschleunigen.

LimeWire ist einer der beliebtesten Filesharing Clients für das Gnutella Netzwerk und bietet alle gängigen Funktionen aktueller Tauschbörsen. Die knapp 2,5 MB große Installation ist selbsterklärend und nach der Installation unterstützt ein Assistent die Konfiguration des Programms. Limewire kann ohne weitere Einstellungen oder Vorbereitungen gestartet werden.

Die Oberfläche ist einfach und intuitiv zu bedienen und mit Hilfe von Proxies kann der Benutzer teilweise anonym downloaden. Der integrierte Medienplayer spielt .ogg und .mp3 Dateien ab. Der Client ist in Java geschrieben und läuft deshalb auf fast jedem Betriebsystem. In LimeWire befindet sich seit den neuen Versionen keine Adware und Spyware mehr. In den aktuellen Versionen enthält LimeWire Filtersoftware, die nicht lizensierte Dateien aus den Suchergebnissen entfernt.

Das Ende des Rechtsstreits zwischen den Betreibern der Tauschbörse Kazaa und der Musik- und Filmindustrie scheint erreicht. BBC zufolge hat sich Sharman Networks außergerichtlich mit den Klägern geeinigt und zahlt angeblich 100 Millionen Dollar Schadensersatz für Copyright-Verletzungen. Desweiteren wird die Tauschbörse um Filterfunktionen erweitert, die die Verbreitung von urheberrechtlich geschütztem Material, das nicht für die Tauschbörse lizenziert wurde, durch die Benutzer verhindern soll.
